I believe that the best way to serve you is to keep abreast of changes in the law. Besides attending 3 to 4 times the amount of required continuing legal educaiton, I find that preparing presentations makes me fully learn a topic. As a result, I rarely shy away from the opportunity to speak, whether to other members of the legal community or members of the community at large. Below are some speaking events in which I've been involved. Feel free to contact me if you'd like me to speak at one of your events. On June 24, 2009, I co-presented at a lunch meeting discussing aging issues on behalf of the San Diego Human Dignity Foundation. I have another presentation scheduled for that group on the treatment of Charitable Trusts in December. On February 10, 2009, I spoke to a group at the LGBT Community Center, updating on recent tax developments. On November 5, 2008, I spoke at a meeting of Estate Planning Professionals in La Jolla on the problems associated with using joint trusts for same-sex couples. On October 3, 2008, I participated in a panel discussion of the Basics of Business Entity Selection at the Young Lawyers Division Conference of the American Bar Association in San Diego. On February 5, 2008, I participated in a presentation to a joint meeting of the Tom Homann Law Association and the Family Law and Tax Sections of the San Diego County Bar Association, regarding tax and estate planning issues for California Registered Domestic Partners. I spoke at a similar event in early 2007. On January 28, 2008, I gave a presentation to a group at San Diego's LGBT Community Center on tax planning for same-sex couples. While discussing the issues, I offered to do a review of a self-preparation software for preparing 2007 California returns of Registered Domestic Partners. Read that review here. On March 15, 2007, I participated in a "Town Hall" meeting in San Diego, sponsored in part by the California State Controller's office. A similar meeting was held in Long Beach on July 19, 2007. The meetings focused on tax and estate planning issues for Registered Domestic Partners. I was asked to do the same presentation in Palm Springs, but was unable to attend due to the October, 2007 wildfires in San Diego County. |
